Service Sponsor

Sponsorship is basically defined the same for one who is helping another – or for one who is helping the service of a group.

Defined: One alcoholic who has made some progress in recovery and/or performance or service, sharing this experience with another alcoholic who is just starting the journey. Both types of sponsorship spring from the spiritual aspects of the program. The service sponsor presents various aspects of service. A few examples: setting up meetings; how a committee functions; and participating in conferences – just to name a few. It is important for the service sponsor to differentiate between serving the needs of the Fellowship and meeting the personal needs of another group member. The service sponsor begins by encouraging simple opportunities with-in the group and then later at the district meetings. (AA Service Manual pg. 9-10)
